Peace is unsightly
A new office/restaurant complex has been built across from the Bitterroot Peace Post, located between 4th and 5th streets in Hamilton. The owners declared the post to be unsightly. The owners of the land where the post is located responded by asking us to move the post. We are presently looking at a location in Stevensville.
It’s not easy being a monument for peace in the Bitterroot. Last fall, the Bitterroot Peace Post, located on Main Street in Hamilton next to Art City, was chain-sawed down. In the summer its prayer flags were stolen. Then it was forced from its metal supports onto the ground.
Not in the least deterred, the Bitterroot Peace Seekers just repair it and move on.
Adopted highway
As part of their ongoing efforts to work for peace in a positive manner, the group has adopted 2 miles of Highway 93. They will be responsible for removing trash from this stretch of highway, which will be marked by signs reading “Bitterroot Peace Seekers.”
